The latest version of my synopsis

Angel Chavéz, an 18 year-old with latent psychic powers, falls in love with a fellow musician, 21 year-old Evan Vander when they play in a friend's Rock band together. Evan encourages Angel’s infatuation without any intention of returning her affections. After several months, Angel is pregnant. When she hesitates to get an abortion, Evan reveals himself as a self-centered cad who tries to bully her into relieving him of his responsibility. In response to Evan’s selfishness, Angel rebelliously decides to have her baby but before long, miscarries their child. Thinking he is free of any consequences, Evan vanishes from Angel's life and she descends into an abyss of anguish.

Several years later, Angel has survived her trauma to become a successful artist, a painter. Evan now signed to a major record label and about to have his first album released, contacts Angel stating that he wants reconciliation. Forgiveness is just moments away when Evan balks at apologizing to Angel for his past behavior and leaves her standing in the street like a fool. Once again, Evan dismisses Angel from his life and disappears.

Realizing that Evan has betrayed her for the second time, Angel swears vengeance. She begins an ironic series of heroic, beautiful paintings of Evan. She becomes something of a sensation in the art world, appearing in documentaries and talk shows. Never able to produce a follow-up to his initial success in the music business, Evan's career peaks and declines. He publicly denigrates Angel's use of him as a muse. This only serves to enrage her and inspire more paintings of Evan, each more intimate than the last. Angel takes delight in tormenting Evan with her art and watching his downward spiral and petty misfortunes as the years pass. Despite his protests, she vows to continue to paint him, with contempt of the belief that women should suffer in silence while men get a free ride for their bad behavior.

Angel has a life-altering psychic vision when a beloved musician friend suddenly dies. Stricken with grief she concludes that her revenge on Evan simply does not matter anymore. A stranger informs her that Evan is struggling with a dark secret. In the blink of an eye, all the pleasure and satisfaction of wreaking vengeance on him transforms into the bitterness of a pyrrhic victory.

  1. Naked Dave - I meant to say Evan, sounds like a real jerk.

  2. Real life mistakes make great fiction.

PS. All characters appearing in this work are fictitious. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental.

  3. I thought I was the angriest woman in the world...nice to know I'm not alone. You have a fantastic and unique site, and your book sounds amazing. I love that her vengeance on Evan is dished out via her art -- a very unique twist. We need more feminist books out there that make a difference.

Keep in touch. I'm following your tweets.

  5. Wow, this is going to be a great book. I want to read it now! When will you be done? No pressure or anything :-) I was 18 in 1982. And yes, one's personal music collection gives you a LOT of information right up front, about who they are. Love this.
